E. REID MULLINS
10th President
1990-1992
I served as the tenth president of the Gwinnett County Retired Teachers Association in 1990-1992. The officers
for my term were Don Herndon, vice-president; Betty Ivy, secretary; Jackie Perry, treasurer; and Barney Davis, immediate past
president. Each of these officers excelled in their duties and made my job a pleasure.
Don Herndon recommended that the Constitution and Bylaws be changed so that each officer would serve a one year
term instead of two years. This was done in order to make it more appealing to members to serve as an officer.
My main focus was to establish a better cooperative relationship with Gwinnett County Retired Teachers Association
and the active Gwinnett County Public School System.
1)A retired employee reunion and luncheon was established to be held annually in November. This luncheon financed
by the Gwinnett County School System s staff benefits has now become our regular November meeting date to celebrate Retired
Educators Day.
2)All retirees from the Gwinnett County School System were provided life time passes to any Gwinnett County High/Middle
School athletic event.
3)All retirees were provided a laminated picture I.D. card "free", by simply going by the Gwinnett County School
office to have the photo taken.
4)Membership increased to approximately one hundred and forty.
5)A newsletter was updated to a newspaper format and was mailed to all members before meetings.
6)Our local unit received the "Unit of Excellence" in all categories at the State Convention. Gailya Raines received
the M Volunteer of the Year Award" from the State. Dorothy S. Pearson, historian, published our first history. A copy was
sent to the Georgia Retired Teachers Association Archives in Milledgeville, Georgia.
At the closing of my second term the local members supported me for nomination and election to serve as president
of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. I served as state president from 1993 to 1994.
The experience of serving as Gwinnett County Retired Teachers Association s tenth president was a great honor.
To be supported by my local unit to serve as president of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association adds much to this honor.
