T. CARL BUICE
1st President
1972-1974
T. Carl Buice, the first president of the Gwinnett County
Retired Teachers Association, was a dedicated educator who,
even in retirement worked to improve education. His wife, Martha
Mercier Buice, wrote that one of Carl*s dreams for the new organization
was to have every retired educator in Gwinnett County become a member.
Florence Garner served as vice-president and Louise Allen served as secretary-treasurer. Florence remembers Mr.
Buice*s dedication to his profession and to his co-workers. She recalled many
stories that his former teachers loved sharing about their times with Mr. Buice.
One of the many highlights of Mr. Buice*s tenure as president was a
tea sponsored by the Gwinnett County*s Alpha Psi Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa
International Sorority for Women Educators held in January, 1973. At this time, a gavel was presented to Gwinnett County Retired
Teachers Association. Mr. Buice enjoyed using it as he presided in his calm, masterful manner."
